AI Academic Coach for Grades 4–12

AI writing feedback built for revision, teacher visibility, and school control.

Guided Scholar helps students draft, revise, and reflect inside a class-linked workflow teachers can see. Feedback is tied to the assignment. Revision is visible. The teacher stays connected.

The Problem

Three gaps that hold every student back

Students don't struggle because they're unmotivated. They struggle because the structured support they need isn't there at the moment they need it, and teachers can't be everywhere at once.

01

They don't know how to begin

When students hit a blank page and no one is there to help, they find the path of least resistance, and today that path is an AI tool that produces the assignment for them.

02

No support in the moment

Students don't cheat because they want to. They do it because no one is available to coach them through the hard part at the moment it matters most.

03

Feedback arrives too late

Most students never learn what went wrong. Graded papers come back days later, or not at all. By then the assignment is over and the lesson is lost.

How It Works

Four modes. One purpose.

Each workflow is bounded by design, structured around specific student needs, visible to the responsible teacher, and linked to the assignment context. Students get feedback. Teachers see the work.

Teach Me

Learn how to approach it

Students enter their assignment, select the right template, and receive structured feedback on their response, section by section. Designed for learning how to approach a task and improve what they produce. Draft history and revision depth are visible to the teacher throughout.

Includes writing, spreadsheets, and presentations

Coach Me

Submit your own work and improve it

Students submit completed work and receive detailed coaching feedback: strengths, improvements, revision guidance, and next steps. No pre-writing assistance. This mode evaluates independent work. All submissions and revisions are visible to the teacher in the dashboard.

No AI assistance before submission, by design

ACT Writing Practice

Guided ACT essay preparation

Scaffolded planning, paragraph-by-paragraph drafting support, ACT-style scoring, and a full downloadable feedback package. Built for real improvement, not test simulation.

Prompt library with manual and random selection

ACT Practice Test

Authentic timed test conditions

A timed environment that mirrors real ACT writing conditions. No guided support during writing, the student works independently. Post-submission feedback once time expires.

Auto-submits at timeout · No guided launch support

Guided Scholar currently supports over a dozen writing, spreadsheet, and presentation templates. If you have assignment types not in the current library, contact us, new templates are evaluated based on breadth of applicability across grade levels and subject areas.

For Students

Get feedback. Revise. Keep your work visible.

Guided Scholar gives students structured feedback tied to the assignment and lets them return to earlier work to revise and improve. The feedback is specific. The revision record is visible.

📄
Continue Work
Students can return to earlier work, revise from saved drafts, and build a visible revision history. Prior draft text loads reliably across sessions.
Structured Feedback
Feedback covers strengths, improvements, revision suggestions, and next steps — structured around the assignment criteria, not generic writing advice.
Feedback Exports
Students can download feedback as a text file (.txt), Word document (.docx), or Google Docs-Compatible HTML for review outside the app.
🏫
Grade-Level Feedback
Non-ACT feedback expectations are calibrated by grade band: upper elementary (grades 4–5), middle school (grades 6–8), and high school (grades 9–12).
📈
ACT Writing Preparation
ACT Writing Practice and ACT Practice Test workflows with ACT-aligned feedback are available for grades 9–12.
Grades 9–12
💬
Self-Initiated Work
Students can practice beyond assigned work. School-account activity stays class-linked and teacher-visible — not private AI use detached from school oversight.

For Teachers

Assign, review, and see what changed.

Guided Scholar separates Assigned Work from Self-Initiated Student Work so teachers know what was assigned, what was student-started, and what changed over time. The revision record is visible without reading every draft.

📋
Assigned Work
Teachers create writing tasks tied to a class, workflow, and assignment context. Students draft and revise inside the same guided workflow. The teacher keeps visibility from first draft to latest version.
Current Version Review
Teachers mark the current version reviewed. The status resets when a student submits a new draft — so “reviewed” always means the teacher has seen the latest version, not just the thread at some point in the past.
🔍
Revision Visibility
Teachers can see whether the revision was substantial, moderate, or surface-only — without reading every draft. Guided Scholar tracks drafts, feedback, and revisions so the writing process is visible, not just the final submission.
🔒
Close and Reopen Assignments
Teachers control when Assigned Work is open, closed, or reopened. Closed work is hidden from student selection and blocks new submissions. Students cannot close teacher-assigned work themselves.
📊
Reporting
Reporting covers class participation, rubric growth, rubric category strengths and weaknesses, ACT score progression, and recurring feedback patterns — across Assigned Work and Self-Initiated Student Work.
👁
Teacher-Visible Student Work
Assigned Work and Self-Initiated Student Work are reviewed through separate dashboard paths. Teachers can distinguish formal class assignments from student-started class-linked practice.

For Schools

School-governed AI support. Not unmanaged student chatbot use.

Guided Scholar keeps school-account activity tied to class, assignment, student, and teacher context. Independent practice does not mean invisible practice.

🔗
Class-Linked Records
Every submission, feedback exchange, and revision is tied to a class and visible to the responsible teacher. School-account activity is governed by school context, not open consumer-style usage.
🛠
Controlled Pilot Setup
Pilot setup supports controlled rosters, role-based access, student grade level, and temporary credentials. First-week support materials for teachers, students, and launch operations are included.
🔒
AI Transparency
Guided Scholar uses AI to support feedback and revision. Teachers remain responsible for instructional judgment and grading. AI feedback is not final grading authority.
🔑
SSO Readiness
Google and Microsoft SSO readiness work is underway. Temporary credentials keep pilots on schedule if district SSO setup takes longer than expected.
Planned
👥
Administrator Dashboard
School and district-level reporting, roster management, and access controls are in active planning. Current pilots operate through teacher-level account management.
Planned
📄
Release Control
Guided Scholar maintains a documented pilot candidate build with validation checklist, rollback instructions, and recovery process. The current pilot candidate is stable and ready for controlled school deployment.

Academic Integrity

Guided Scholar's approach to the cheat question is architectural.

The first question most administrators ask: "Won't students just use it to cheat?" It's the right question, and the answer is built into how Guided Scholar works.

Each mode has a deliberate boundary. Coach Me (where students submit their own completed work) contains no pre-writing assistance by design. That boundary isn't an oversight. It's a principle. The goal is to protect the integrity of independent work while still giving students the feedback they need to grow.

In school-account deployments, student practice is not private AI use. It is a governed, class-linked activity visible to the responsible teacher and controlled by the school deployment context. Teachers can see every draft, every revision, and whether the revision was substantial, moderate, or surface-only — without reading everything manually.

Guided Scholar guides students through their own thinking. It does not generate assignments, write paragraphs, or remove the cognitive work that produces real learning.

Coach Me has no pre-writing support, independent work stays independent
ACT Practice Test preserves authentic timed conditions with no guided assistance
Feedback guides revision, it does not produce finished work or replace teacher judgment
In school deployments, all student activity is class-linked and teacher-visible
Template and framework support helps students think, not bypass thinking

About the Founder

Peter Brau

High School Teacher · Retired Lieutenant Colonel · AI Consultant

Guided Scholar was created from years of classroom experience and firsthand observation of what actually stops students from doing their best work. It was built to improve how students begin, structure, revise, and learn from their work, not to replace their thinking or their teacher's judgment. The feedback architecture reflects the same standards used in teaching advanced writing at the secondary level and in peer-reviewed military analysis: specific, evidence-based, and tied directly to revision.
